Do you like making films? Are you a busy person with no time to make films? Have you never made a film? Does the thought of making films fill your heart with warm, fuzzy feelings?

 

This summer, we’re going to make films like REAL burly men, the old fashioned way, in only 24 hours.

And this year, we have real money-gift-card prizes for the maker of the best film!

Official start and end times (PDT):
Saturday, August 11^th, at 10AM

Sunday August 12^th, at 10PM
(there’s a 12 hour block scheduled in there for sleeping or whatever normal people do!)

 

Just like many things in your life, you can do it with friends, or by yourself. On August 10^th at 10PM, the “theme” word of this round of MANIMATE will be posted here, and you can have at it.

 

There’ll be a conference chat set up so that you can talk with filmmakers around the world as you run hopelessly towards the finish line.

 

When you’re done, email me a link to your film posted on Vimeo/Youtube (or send me the file if you want me to host it on the official MANIMATE channel), and we’ll post them all here.

It’s been a crazy week… a huge, hearty congrats to all the people that made films as part of this year’s Manimate fest. We had 20 films made this year (WHICH IS CRAZY AWESOME)  ranging from the absurd to the more absurd.

 

The theme word this year was “COVETED”.

 

First up, the prizes!

I judged with the assistance of the ever-cool Jeff Gill. It was a tough choice (there were a lot of super great films this year), but this is what we came up with. (email me your address cos there are prizes!!)

BEST FILM – SINGLE - 24 Hour Manimation

There are a lot of cool things about “24 Hour Manimation”, and one of those things is not its title. A cute, funny film that looks super polished. Congrats Jon!

TECHNICAL AWARD – WELCOME TO LA

This was a tight race, but Elizabeth’s photo/painting/animation collage works really spectacularly. The title cards are less technically challenging, but eh, you can’t win every battle.

LONGEST FILM – DEER

This film also wins the award for best live action film. A touching but funny story about a deer father. Congrats to Eddie!!

This film is not only awesomely animated, with great music, and cute drawings, it’s also about a star… with a butt. It’s a thing of beauty. Jeff, just… Starbutt. Starrrrbuttttt.
